Avelox: Drug application

Avelox is a drastic antimicrobial remedy characterized by high efficiency. Self-treatment with Avelox is strictly not recommended, as this treatment may not bring any positive results. Before Avelox use, you are recommended to visit the doctor for consultation.

First of all, the doctor will examine your organism and will set a correct diagnosis of disease, second of all, he will pay attention to all features of your organism and contraindications to the drug and will define if Avelox is suitable for you or not.

Then considering it, the doctor will prescribe a required dosage and the treatment course to be strictly followed during the whole treatment course. Prescription and the treatment course are indicated individually for each patient.

Avelox is indicated for oral administration, swallowing whole with small amount of water, irrespectively of food, or as intravenous infusions (slowly, during 60 minutes), the drug can be administered as diluted, or non-diluted. Usually, the average dose in adults makes 400mg once a day.

Duration of Avelox treatment depends on infection severity and clinical effect and on the average makes from 5 to 14 days. In acute chronic bronchitis, it makes 5 days, in community-acquired pneumonia – 7-14 days (first, intravenously, then orally), in acute sinusitis and skin infections – 7 days.

Senior patients, patients suffering from insignificant liver or kidneys disorders, and also those under maintenance hemodialysis and long-term peritoneal dialysis do not require any changes in drug administration. However, all doctor’s instructions should be strictly followed as drug overdose may negatively affect the treatment, and the organism. Drug overdose may cause serious adverse reactions.

After taking, Avelox is absorbed quickly. Avelox is quickly distributed in the body, and after biotransformation it is eliminated through the kidneys with urine, and also with bowel movements, excreted unchanged and as inactive sulfocompound and glucuronids.

Avelox: Drug action

AveloxAvelox is a bactericidal broad-spectrum drug. Avelox action blocks bacterial topoisomerase leading to microbial cell DNA disease and, consequently, to microbial cell destruction.

In vitro the drug is active to a wide spectrum of gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms, anaerobe, acid-resisting bacteria and atypical forms, such as Mycoplasma spp., Chlamidia spp., Legionella spp. Avelox affects bacterium, destroying them providing great and fast effect.

Characterized by clinically significant post-antibiotic effect on the gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms, Avelox does not show photosensitizing action.

The mechanism leading to resistance to penicillin, cephalosporin, aminoglycoside, macrolide, and tetracycline do not affect antibacterial Avelox action.

Contraindications to application

Consultation with the doctor is recommended to ensure drug safety. The doctor will study all contraindications and indicate the correct treatment course. Taking into account of all contraindications is important and obligatory in any treatment as successful treatment, and also the general health state depends on correct drug use.

Serious contraindications to Avelox application include: hypersensitivity, adolescent age under 18 years, epilepsy, diarrhea, hypersensibility to Moxifloxacin and other drug components.

The patients are recommended to take extra care if they: have hepatic insufficiency (group C of Child-Pugh scale), myocardial ischemia, take drugs causing cardial conduction, pseudomembranous colitis, or suffer from the central nervous systems diseases causing convulsion.

Safety of Avelox during pregnancy is not confirmed, therefore drug use is counter-indicated. During breast-feeding, Avelox may penetrate into breast milk negatively affecting an infant. Therefore Avelox use during chest feeding also is counter-indicated.

Corticosteroid taken during Avelox use may cause tendovaginitis and tendon tear. Antacids, minerals, multivitamins, and other remedies containing magnesium, aluminium, iron, form chelate, and reduce concentration in plasma (they should be taken 4 hours before Avelox use or in two hours after Avelox use).

There is a direct dependence between Moxifloxacin concentration increase and increase in Q-T interval resulting in the risk of ventricular arrhythmias, therefore the drug dosage prescribed by the doctor should be strictly observed.

Avelox side-effects

Most patients tolerate Avelox very well as the drug is characterized by good safety. Avelox is a drastic drug effectively fighting against bacteria. Nevertheless all medications cause some side-effects.

Usually, they are revealed only if Avelox is used improper and on the average pass soon. Clinical trials have reported that the most side-effects are mild. However, side-effects may appear, so, read carefully the following.

Headache, sleeplessness, dizziness, nervousness, drowsiness, anxiety, tremor, paresthesia, mental confusion, depression, tachycardia, palpitation, high arterial pressure, leucocytopenia, increase in prothrombin time, thrombocytosis, anaemia, stomach ache, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, dry mouth, tympanism, constipation, candidiasis of oral cavity, or appetite loss may be observed.

Other side-effects include peripheral hypostases, vaginal candidiasis, skin itch, urticaria, chest pain, back pain, amylase in the blood, polyhidrosis.
Search for really effective medications is a serious work and should be seriously considered. The most important thing is to find effective, safe drug to overcome the disease.
